Use of the Biohood100^TM

The Biohood100 Hood and Safety Face Masks provides protection for those people potentially exposed to pathogens such as Bird flu H5N1 -SARS -TB and  other infectious agents or dust. It should be used in all travel and essential work scenarios following an official health alert. The simple to use respirator accommodates all face sizes, including those with beards, spectacles. Its patented design covers the head and therefore protects all usual infection routes:

• Mouth
• Nose
• Eyes
• Ears

The hood seals around the neck with two latex bands and provides totally filter air within the hood by removing the usual & accepted leakage points associated with masks and respirators such as:

• Perimeter seal failures due to filter resistance
• Face fit variations
• Leakage from jaw movement
• Leakage from talking or head turning
• Leakage from facial muscle movement.

Whist the Safety Face Masks will provide adequate protections agains SARS and Swine Flu type viruses so long the other usual protective measures like washing hands with soap after any contact.

The Biohood100 was developed in response to the published failures of conventional protection such as the FP1-2-3 & N95 -98 mask and respirators.

These failures were identified by the CDC Centre of Disease control) from the reported exposure and infection rates of HCW hospital care workers involved with the SARS epidemic, affecting Canada, Taiwan, and Hong Kong in 2003. Their conclusions revolve around the  the fact that HCW wearing conventional PPE (masks and respirators) were infected at the same rate as those with no protection at all.

This photo shows commuters being evacuated through a tunnel where an explosion has taken place, toxic dust is expected and although the Biohood has no chemical or smoke protection it would provide defence against dust and emergency protection against asbestos which must be assumed to be present in these circumstances.

The hood is made from the same 5 layer laminate as used in the Safetyhood The filtration is capable of stopping 99.99999% the smallest bacteria and virus down to .027 micron. The internal surface of the filter is covered in soft viscose reinforced with polyester fibres and impregnated with a CPC a recognised antiseptic. The hood seals around the neck with two latex bands and conforms to International standard EN405 regarding inward leakage. The electrostatic filter has 80%less filter resistance than conventional mechanical filters and therefore reduces fatigue in use.

The Biohood100 may be worn for several hours and drinking may be essential to prevent dehydration. The re-hydration tube simply fits under the neck seal & fits into a bottle on the belt of in a shoulder harness. A one way valve on the bottle prevents contamination ingress.
