The announcement by Elizabeth Manning Buller, head of Mi5 in November that we should should expect to be targets of terrorism for the next thirty years was simply a repeat of lat years message. Significant additional information revealed that the threat had expanded to include CBR chemical biological and radiological and even nuclear devices and that mass destruction was the objective, The emergency services have already identified the threat and have initiated the procurement process for  escape hoods which will be carried by their employees to effect a safe escape in the event of terrorist action.

This is of course a sensible action and we have seen international incidents where first responders have been injured needlesly because they didn't have adequate protection with them and this failure to protect emplyees is a serious breech of H&S legislation..

While the safety of our emergency services is of paramount importance the safety of the public can now be seen to be at risk as expected help is likley to utilise their escape protection hood.

There now exits a significant personal choice of whether to be protected or chance a bioterroism event likly to be encountered over the next 30 years.
