Freqently asked questions Minimize

Q. We already have PP3 or N98 masks won't they provide good protection against Bio terrorism and Bird flu or Sars?

A. Absolutely not. These types of mask are known to leak and provide absolutely no protection against chemical agents. The SARS outbreak in 2003 resulted in the CDC Centre of Disease Control (USA) publishing a document which said these masks and respirators provide no protection at all . (see Downloads)

Q. Would a Safety or Biohood-100 protect me bettrer than a FFP3 or N99?

A. These hoods provide much better filtration but more importantly do not leak during use. Try this simple test. Put you mask on, spray a toilet deodorant or room freshner in the air, now move your head, talk and raise an arm and you will find that you can smell this within seconds. The safety & Biohood 100 seal around the neck so don't leak like  masks.

Q. Will safetyhood protect me against all CBR and bio-terrorist release?

A. The short answer is no and no single respirator is capable of that, however the safetyhood will provide protection against the agents considered the biggest threat as considered by NIOSH National Institute of Occupational Safety Health.

Q. Will the Safetyhood protect me against bird flu?

A. The safetyhood has the same advanced filter as the Biohood but it also has the additional filters required to protect against  chemical agents. This means it is more expensive than theBiohood-100 which was desigend specifically for Bird Flu and SARS.There is a slightly greater breathing resistance over time. You can use the Safetyhood for both emergencies and general respiratory protection but we reccomend the Biohood -100 for biological or viral protection.

Q. How long can I wear the hoods for?

A. The Biohood-100 can be worn as long as you feel comfortable but remember you may get dehydrated and therefore may need to rest or take on water. You can use our rehydration tube for this if necessary. The Safetyhood will provide a minimum protection of 20 minutes but you should be leaving the danger area after fitting and therefore contamintion should be constantly diluting. This dilution factor will provide additional protection time and you should not remove the hood untill you are out of danger or find breathing difficult.
